05.02.2026 – Internet Sexual Health Censorship

Hey everybody. Dr. Nick here, with a new blog post for you on May 2nd 2026.  Today I had to talk about something that really bothers me, especially after a really popular post I made on Instagram was taken down. Let’s talk about Internet censorship today.

For those of you who did not see the post, it was a picture of a couple in which the gentleman was performing cunnilingus on the lady, who was on all fours. The caption of the artwork was “Eat it From the Back.” Instagram took it down because they said it was showing sexual activity, even though it was a pencil drawing with no color. Not even a photograph or a GIF!

At the same time, I’ve seen younger sexual health educators and sexual advocates spell the word “sex” eight ways to Sunday (i.e., seggs, seex, s3x, etc).  My point is, if you’re going to use spellings like that, you might as well go back to saying “down there.”

I found an article published in the International Journal of sexual health in 2021, where the title is “Facebook doesn’t like sexual health or sexual pleasure.” While the article mentions Facebook by name, you may as well include some of the other major social media providers as well. On the second page of the article, it says, “sexual health content is often flagged as pornography by big tech and, consequently, such material is often banned.” To continue, the article says, “This censorship has a historical precedent. Sexual desire, passion, and pleasure have long been viewed as dangerous, as a threat to social, political, and religious order.  The legacy of a negative interpretation of pleasure, particularly if it is experienced in the context outside of marriage preparation or heterosexuality, is still with us today and continues to hinder all sexual health promotion.”  This article gives an example of how Google banned a sexual health organization from using its Google checkout service to sell contraceptive education kits online, where the company’s representatives deemed the wooden penis model used for demonstrating how to put on a condom as a “sex toy.”

So now we have private companies, in addition to the government, telling us what we can and cannot watch,  social media companies telling us what we can and cannot read, and the government pretty much telling us what we can and cannot listen to, unless they put a sticker on it.  Before, the government stayed out of bedrooms because they knew it wouldn’t end well for them, but now they don’t seem to have a problem with it.

To the young sexual health educators out there, please start using words like sex, intercourse, love, and fucking, and other terms.  When you are educating, you are trying to connect with your audience and educate them about sexual health.  If you disagree or agree with what I’m saying, please feel free to write a comment below.

Take care and have a great day, Dr. Nick.
